Swimming and diving to host Arizona on Senior Day


<p>The Arizona State University swimming and diving teams host Arizona in their final dual meet of the season. The meet begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe. The women's team is currently 6-5 (2-4 Pac-10) and while the men's is 2-6 (0-3 Pac-10). The Sun Devils will say goodbye to five seniors, as they will compete for the final time at home.</p><separator></separator><p><strong>Senior salute</strong><br> <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/evans_ashley00.html">Ash… Evans</a><br> The Jersey girl is currently third in the 200 IM on ASU's all-time and has earned an NCAA "B" standard in the event already this season. Additionally, she is a kinesiology major and one of the team captains this season. Evans was also an Olympic Trials qualifier in 2008.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/laney_max00.html">Max Laney</a><br> Senior Max Laney has made his mark in two areas on ASU's all-time list. A strong backstroker, Laney is currently ninth in the 100 back and sixth in the 200 back. He has also competed in the individual medley events for the Sun Devils and served as a captain this season. He is earning his interdisciplinary degree in education and math.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/martinez_jamie00.html">J… Martinez</a><br> Jamie Martinez will leave ASU as the school record-holder in the 200 back. She clocked in at 1:55.78 to shatter the previous record. Martinez is also ranked in the 100 back (2nd), 100 butterfly (10th), 200 butterfly (5th) and 400 IM (9th). She will graduate with a degree in Family and Human Development.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/mcdaniel_sara00.html">Sa… McDaniel</a> <br> Sara McDaniel will exit ASU with degrees in English and Communications. She has been named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention team two times in her career and has been active as a member of Student-Athlete Action Committee. She earned All-American Honorable Mention honors her freshman season as a member of the 200 medley relay team. He has competed in mostly the mid-distance free events during his time as a Sun Devil.</p><separator></separator><p><strong>Pac-10's Finest </strong><br> Sophomore diversElina Eggers and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/bradshaw_cameron00.html"… Bradshaw</a> were recognized as Pac-10 Divers of the Month for the month of December. This is the first time both a male and female Sun Devil diver have been awarded the conference honor in the same month. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/tumlinson_trisha00.html"… Tumlinson</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/puhakka_joona00.html">Jo… Puhakka</a> were the only other two male and female divers to receive it in the same year.</p><separator></separator><p><strong>Pride of Canada </strong><br> <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/mccormick_riley00.html">… McCormick</a> may be a freshman but he sure does not dive like it. McCormick recently took the top of the podium at the Canadian Winter Nationals after winning the platform. He additionally placed fourth on the 3-meter. At ASU, the 2008 Canadian Olympian has already achieved NCAA automatic qualifying scores in both springboards as well as the platform. He dominated the tower at the Wildcat Invitational, winning by over 60 points.</p><separator></separator><p><strong>B Cuts </strong><br> Several Sun Devil swimmers have earned NCAA consideration times this season. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/ejdervik_rebecca00.html"… Ejdervik</a> grasped several "B" cuts in the 100 breast already this season including one most recently at Stanford. Fellow breaststroker, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/green_jordyn00.html">Jor… Green</a> has also recorded consideration times in both the 100 and 200. On the men's side, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/mohammed_xavier00.html">… Mohammed</a> has captured NCAA consideration cuts in the 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/evans_ashley00.html">Ash… Evans</a> has earned an NCAA "B" standard time in the 200 IM when she won the event at the Tiger Invitational. Evan's fellow senior, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/martinez_jamie00.html">J… Martinez</a>, has additionally achieved "B" cuts in the 100 and 200 back. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/landgrebe_shannon00.html… Landgrebe</a> is the lone freshman to have already earned an NCAA consideration time; she has done so in the 200 back.</p><separator></separator><p><strong>All is Well in the Diving Well</strong><br> Nearly all the divers have qualified for the NCAA Zone E Championship. All four of the women's diving team have earned bids while Bradshaw, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/blaha_constantin00.html"… Blaha</a> and McCormick are also set to travel to Austin.</p><separator></separator><p><strong>Next Up</strong><br> The women's team heads to Long Beach for the Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships while the diving team flies to Federal Way, Wash., for the Pac-10 Diving Championships. The women's Pac-10s will begin Wednesday Feb. 24 while the diving championships will start on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday.</p>
