Sun Devils kick off 2009-10 season in Chicago


The fifth-ranked ASU men's golf team opens up the fall season Friday in Chicago at Olympia Fields Country Club, site of the U.S. Open in 1928 and 2003 and the 1925 and 1961 PGA Championships. Hosted by the University of Illinois, the fourth annual Olympia Fields/ Fighting Illini Invitational is a three-day event that begins at 8 a.m. Friday and runs through Sunday. The 54-hole tournament consists of three rounds of 18-holes, all played on the 7,157 yard North Course.

The Sun Devils will be teeing off against 15 of the top programs in the country, including No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Oklahoma State, 2007 Olympia Fields/ Fighting Illini Invitational champions, and No. 6 Illinois, defending tournament champions.

Arizona State's first lineup of the 2009-10 season features three All-Americans in senior Knut Borsheim, and juniors Scott Pinckney and Jesper Kennegard, who last year won the NCAA West Regional and finished tied for ninth at the NCAA Championships.
