Sun Devil soccer hosts Loyola Marymount in exhibition

August 14, 2009

The Arizona State women's soccer team hosts Loyola Marymount in an exhibition match on Friday night (7 p.m.) at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe. Admission to the game will be free to the general public.

The Sun Devils open the regular season next Friday night (Aug. 21) at 7 p.m. when they host UC Irvine.

Under third-year head coach Kevin Boyd the Sun Devils will be looking to get into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003. The Sun Devils barely missed the tournament each of the last two years, including last season when Boyd led the Sun Devils to an 8-8-4 record despite six season ending injuries.

Included among ASU's returners this season are senior Liz Harkin, who was named first-team All-Pac-10 last season; junior forward Karin Volpe, who was named Pac-10 honorable mention last season after leading the Sun Devils in points and goals for the second consecutive year; junior midfielder Alexandra Elston, who made the All-Pac-10 Freshman Team two years ago and sophomore defender Katie Shepard, who was named to the Pac-10's All-Freshman Team last season.
