Student proposes on-campus battery drop boxes

April 24, 2012

Jared Doles, a film and media production major at ASU, has proposed a solution for safe battery disposal that was featured as the Solution of the Week on the 10,000 Solutions site.

10,000 Solutions is a problem-solving site that offers a place where students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the public can share their ideas to impact local and global communities as well as build on others' ideas. Download Full Image

Working as a change agent on ASU's Tempe campus, Doles reminds students that batteries should not be tossed into the trash, as they contain materials that can be harmful to the environment and human health.

Doles proposes the installation of battery drop boxes on all ASU campus locations. After the batteries are dropped off by students, ASU can pick up the batteries and take them to the safe disposal facilities, helping to protect our drinking water and reusing these materials in a more sustainable way.
