Student Alumni Association to host mud volleyball tournament
Arizona State University's Student Alumni Association (SAA) will host its annual Oozeball mud volleyball tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 23 on fields at the northeast corner of Rio Salado Parkway and Rural Road in Tempe.
The tournament is played on dirt fields soaked with water, allowing students to play a muddy game of volleyball. ASU students can sign up teams with a minimum of five players and a maximum of eight players.
“This event combines the best of volleyball, the best of SAA and the best of ASU student life,” said Daniel Turbyfill, special events manager of student relations at the ASU Alumni Association. “Every year, this tournament gets bigger and bigger, with more teams involved for an afternoon of crazy volleyball played in several inches of thick mud. It’s a unique part of the ASU student experience.”
The cost to play is $100 per team, which includes a T-shirt for each player, a team photo, and beverages during the tournament. The registration fee benefits SAA, and the proceeds go toward supporting this university tradition.
