The trio of second-place finishers highlighted a four-day meet in which the women earned another team trophy and saw 11 Sun Devil collect 20 All-America honors by placing among the Top 8 nationally in their respective events.</p><separator></separator><p>Texas A&amp;M swept the team titles as the women scored 50 points to outdistance Oregon (43), ASU (41), Florida State (40) and Texas (36) while the TAMU men won with 48 points while Oregon, Florida and Florida State tied for second (46) and LSU was fifth (37). The Sun Devil men posted another Top 10 finish as they took eighth with 29 points. Back to the women, the Top 4 trophy finish marked the seventh time in the past eight NCAA track &amp; field meets that ASU has walked away with a trophy and, including Top 4 finishes from the cross country team, the program has added nine trophies to the display case over the past four years.</p><separator></separator><p>While each Sun Devil that competed on the final day of the meet earned All-America honors, the performance by Stevens took center stage as the senior took second in the discus with a toss of 53.98m while rookie <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/navarro_cj00.html">Cj Navarro</a> scored in her first national meet by finishing eighth in the event at 49.64m. The Top 8 finishes by both women marked the second year in a row that ASU has had multiple All-Americans in the discus after having three last year.</p><separator></separator><p>Steven’s individual finish, however, added to her legacy in the program as her runner-up finish, along with her shot put runner-up and third-place hammer showing, brought her weekend total to 22 team points scored. For her career, the two-time NCAA champion (indoor shot put in 2007, outdoor discus in 2008) has collected a program-record 15 All-America honors while scoring a gigantic 98 team points in NCAA competitions. Since 1982 (the first year ASU’s women scored at the NCAA meet), the Sun Devils have scored in 22 meets with Steven’s 22 points in 2009 beating out 13 of those total scores. She also capped her career by not only earning All-America honors in all three events for the second year in a row, she also became only the second woman (<a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/pressley_jessica00.html… Pressley</a> in 2008) to earn national honors in five throwing events (including the indoor shot put and indoor weight throw).</p><separator></separator><p>In the men’s discus, Whiting held the overall lead with his best toss of the day at 59.80m until the sixth and final round before California’s Martin Maric passed him by two centimeters (or one inch) to take the national title and push the junior to second. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/lewis_jason00.html">Jas… Lewis</a>, an All-American in the hammer one day earlier, added another sixth-place finish to his weekend totals as he finished with a best of 57.82m. With his finish, Whiting took All-America honors in the shot put (champion) and discus for the second year in a row and, combined with the two honors Lewis collected, gave the duo the most throwing All-America honors earned in one NCAA meet for ASU at four. Combine their finishes at the NCAA Indoor meet earlier in the year and the duo closed out the 2009 campaign with seven total All-America honors and national titles in the indoor and outdoor shot put (Whiting) and the indoor weight throw (Lewis).</p><separator></separator><p>While the field athletes made a name for themselves earlier in the day, the women’s sprinters were busy adding points to the team’s total as well with five Sun Devils taking to the track and first up was Williams in the 200m dash. After entering the meet with the fourth-fastest time in the nation, Williams made it to the finals as the fourth-seed after running a school-record 22.71 in the semifinals last night. Today, she clocked in at 22.84 and took second place to earn eight points and earn All-America honors in her third event of the meet (100m, 200m, 4x100m).</p><separator></separator><p>Her sprint teammates took to the track in the final event of the day, the 4x400m relay, and ran the seventh-fastest time in school history as the team of <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/elcock_shauntel00.html"… Elcock</a>, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/chaney_jasmine00.html">… Chaney</a>, Dominique’ Maloy and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/benjamin_jeavon00.html"… Benjamin</a> finished fifth in 3:31.62. All four women earned All-America honors with Chaney and Maloy already having earned honors on the 4x100m relay while Maloy added the honor in the 200m dash. With three honors, Maloy joined Stevens and Williams as the only three Sun Devils to capture All-America honors in a trio of events this weekend.</p><separator></separator><p>The NCAA meet concludes another successful collegiate season for the Sun Devils that will look to build upon the program’s accolades in the fall when the cross country team competes. Before then, several members of the program, both current and former, will compete in the 2009 USA Track &amp; Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., next week.</p><separator></separator><p>NCAA Championships Results - Day 4<br />Saturday, June 13 • Fayetteville, Ark.<br />Men’s Discus - Final<br />2. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/whiting_ryan00.html">Ry… Whiting</a> - 59.80m - All-American<br />6. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/lewis_jason00.html">Jas… Lewis</a> - 57.82m - All-American</p><separator></separator><p>Women’s Discus - Final<br />2. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/stevens_sarah00.html">S… Stevens</a> - 53.98m - All-American<br />8. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/navarro_cj00.html">Cj Navarro</a> - 49.64m - All-American</p><separator></separator><p>Women’s 200m Dash - Final<br />2. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/williams_charonda00.htm… Williams</a> - 22.84 - All-American</p><separator></separator><p>Women’s 4x400m Relay - Final<br />5.
