Stevens, Starks named ASU Athletes of the Week

<p> Track and field star <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/stevens_sarah00.html">S… Stevens</a> and wrestler <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/starks_eric00.html">Er… Starks</a> have been named ASU's Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 14. Both displayed outstanding athleticism in their respective sports.</p><separator></separator><p>Stevens won the shot put and weight throw at the NAU Team Challenge on Saturday with her weight throw mark reaching 70-feet, 10-inches (21.59m). That toss is the second-best all-time in ASU history and ranks as the best mark in the nation currently. Her mark also ranks among the Top 5 in the current world standings.</p><separator></separator><p>A true freshman, Starks entered last weekend with an 0-5 record against nationally ranked foes and exited the weekend with a 1-5 record as he upset No. 11 Kyle Bressler of Oregon State on the road Sunday. Starks shot in on the Pac-10's top-ranked competitor and scored the takedown a mere six seconds into the match and then rolled up riding time to build a 2-1 lead through one. Bressler and Starks escaped to start the second and third period, respectively, with Starks fighting off shot attempts from Bressler to the end. Starks added the riding time point for a 4-2 victory.</p>
