Softball wins Littlewood Classic

ASU Softball Team got back on track Saturday as they topped Texas State 6-3 and Iowa 7-4 in day two of the Littlewood Classic, with Hillary Bach and Megan Elliott both collecting wins in the circle and Katelyn Boyd bringing a spicy bat to the plate, hitting over .570.

Another two-hit complete game shutout awaited Sam Parlich  on Sunday as the ASU Softball team wrapped up the 2010 Littlewood Classic in high fashion as they topped the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 14-0 in five innings with every player in the starting line-up touching home at least once in the win. The win gives ASU the tournament crown as well as an overall record of 9-2 after two weeks of play.

While Parlich took to the circle with a flawless first inning, while Annie Lockwood got the hit parade started in the bottom half of the inning as she singled up the middle to plate Lesley Rogers and take a 1-0 lead.

With Parlich looking to be in complete control of the Rutgers attack, the Sun Devil offense turned around to come out looking tighter than a cummerbund in the third inning as they exploded to score 13 runs with seven hits to bat around the order twice and nearly a third time as they locked up a 14-0 lead.

That was all Sam Parlich needed as she pitched a no-hitter through four before giving up just two hits in the fifth to wrap it for her second collegiate complete game shutout in as many starts.

The Sun Devils will return to the home diamond next weekend as they set to host the South Florida Bulls on February 26, 27 and 28.  Friday night’s game is slated to kick-off at 7 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
