Softball places three on ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team
The 2008 Sun Devil Softball team added yet another accolade to their already storied 2008 season Thursday afternoon as they placed three roster members; Kaitlin Cochran, Jackie Vasquez and Jessica Mapes on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team.
Cochran, a junior outfielder from Yorba Linda, Calif. makes her second career appearance on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team, coupling her accolade with 2007's. A pre-secondary education-math major Cochran has excelled above and beyond on both the field and the classroom as she wraps her junior year with a 3.47 GPA while leading the Pac-10 in nearly every offensive category.
Mapes, also a junior outfielder, is an in-state product as she hails from Tempe, Ariz., and is making her second appearance as well on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team as she collected Second Team honors in 2007. She is a Family and Human Development major with an amazing 4.09 GPA and attends ASU on a Presidential Scholarship.
Vasquez, a senior outfielder from Tucson, Ariz., makes her first career appearance on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team, after being eligible only her junior and senior years after transferring from Kansas. She holds a 3.65 GPA in Special Education and has been awarded with numerous education awards and accolades as well as being listed as a finalist for the Lowe's CLASS Award.
