A State was powered by stellar pitching by <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/escobedo_dallas00.html… Escobedo for her first collegiate win and a red-hot offense that posted 17 runs off 12 hits to rocket them to a 1-0 start to the season.

The first inning saw Escobedo come out all business on the Broncos, as she struck out two to open the inning. One walk later Dallas closed out the inning with a fly out to right to bring the ASU bats out of hibernation. Which is exactly what they did as the Sun Devils exploded in the first inning, scoring 11 runs with two outs to their name with the highlight coming from Sam Parlich who dug in on an 0-1 pitch with bases loaded to crush a grand slam in her first at-bat on the season, tying her home run total from 2010.

Escobedo looked nearly untouchable in the first two at-bats of the second with two quick outs until Myranda McDonald took a 1-2 pitch all the way to the top of the center field wall for one of the longest singles in softball history. Unphased, Escobedo struck out the next batter to keep WMU off the boards. The ASU offense got back to work in the third putting four runs up on the Broncos with a two RBI double from … Aubrecht followed by a two RBI double from K… Boyd to make it 15-0 after three.

With H… Bach and Mackenize Popescue coming in as relief for Escobedo, the Sun Devils put on cruise control as the defense kept WMU off the board while the offense added two more in the fourth with RBIs from <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/zambrana_christina00.h… Zambrana and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/wigness_bailey00.html"… Wigness to finish it up with a 17-0 win for ASU.

Highlights and interviews to come!

The Sun Devils kick into high gear tomorrow as they set to play a double header at 4:30 and 7 p.m. against Cal Poly and Oklahoma State in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
