Softball claims first flawless victory over Oregon State
For the first time in program history, the Arizona State Sun Devil Softball team swept a Pac-10 weekend with consecutive run rules as well as seeing Kaitlin Cochran continue her hot streak, as she went 2-for-2 with another home run in the final game of the weekend. Hillary Bach's complete-game shutout also propelled the sixth-ranked Sun Devils as they closed out the weekend with another victory against the Oregon State Beavers, winning 8-0 in six innings Sunday afternoon at Farrington Stadium. The Sun Devils are now 31-5 overall and 30-0 in conference play as the Beavers fall to 1-3 in the Pac-10 and 16-16 overall.
Sparking the Sun Devil offense in the first inning was Krista Donnenwirth who cracked a double down the left field line to score Lesley Rogers Following in the lineup was Kaylyn Castillo with a gap shot between the first and second baseman for an RBI to bring around Kaitlin Cochran for another run. from second.
Cochran continued the streamlining the ASU offense in the second inning with a hard hit ball that made it past the shortstop to score Jessica Mapes. Hillary Bach took to the circle for the Sun Devils where she pitched the complete-game shut out to collect her seventeenth career victory, putting her record at 17-1 overall on the season.
The Sun Devils continue their conference play as they travel this coming weekend to Westwood, Calif. to take on UCLA on Friday at 1 p.m. and then on to Seattle to take on Washington on April 4th at 1 p.m. April 5th at noon.
