Softball beats Cal Poly

March 26, 2010

Annie Lockwood’s 2-for-4 night with two RBIs and Hillary Bach’s eclectic mix of pitches were enough to lead the eighth-ranked Sun Devils to a 5-3 win over the Cal Poly Mustangs Friday night in Tempe. Bach collected her 13th win of the season as ASU now holds a 28-4 overall record.

The Mustangs bucked first on ASU as a lead off walk in the second inning proved to be costly as center fielder Nicole Lund dug in to hit her first career home run off the first pitch she saw from Bach deep to left field.

The Sun Devils aren’t known for staying quiet long though as they regained their front-runner position putting four on the board in the bottom of the third inning. A State pounced all over an error to open the inning with Katelyn Boyd following it by cracking an RBI double to left center to bring home Lesley Rogers. Another Mustang error revved ASU’s engine as RBIs from Annie Lockwood, Kaylyn Castillo and Sam Parlich all followed suit with ASU reclaiming the lead 4-2.

Annie Lockwood collected another RBI double in the fourth inning to add another run for ASU, bringing home Pac-10 runs scored leader, Katelyn Boyd. Bach regained her composure through most of the rest of the outing as she kept the Mustangs running in circles with only one slip in the seventh as Cal Poly knocked a double and a single to bring home another run cutting the lead to 5-3. The effort wasn’t enough though as Bach closed out her 13th win of the season and ASU’s 28th.
