Softball advances in Kajikawa Classic
<p>A stellar outing from <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/bach_hillary00.html">H… Bach</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/boyd_katelyn00.html">K… Boyd</a> in a 13-0 win in five innings over Ole Miss was dulled Thursday night as the Sun Devils fell in the nightcap 5-2 to the Kentucky Wildcats as they opened up the Kajikawa Classic and their 2010 season 1-1 with <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/bach_hillary00.html">H… Bach</a> taking the first win and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/elliott_megan00.html">… Elliott</a> taking the loss.</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">Game one proved to be traditional A State softball as <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/bach_hillary00.html">H… Bach</a> led the Sun Devils into their first match-up against the Ole Miss Rebels where she allowed only two hits while striking out three before being taking out in the fourth inning after being clipped by a line drive. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/parlich_sam00.html">Sam Parlich</a> came in to finish the shutout, striking out the first batter she faced in her collegiate career.</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">The offense also proved it was a force to be reckoned with as they posted 13 runs off six hits, four of which were home runs, with two from <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/boyd_katelyn00.html">K… Boyd</a>, a grand slam from <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/castillo_kaylyn00.html… Castillo</a> and another long ball from <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/lockwood_annie00.html"… Lockwood</a> to seal the deal.</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">While the Sun Devils looked and felt confident in the first game, the nightcap proved a different story as a different team dug in to face the Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats struck first as they utilized the small ball game, grabbing a lead-off single in the second followed with a sacrifice bunt and a single up the middle to plate and take the lead.</p><separator></separator><p class="MsoNormal">A two run home run in the third followed by solo shots in the fourth and sixth spelled the story in the end as the Wildcats came out swinging.
