Six Gym Devils named to Pac-10 All-Academic Team
The Arizona State women's gymnastics team had six student-athletes named to the Pacific-10 All-Academic Team. The Sun Devils had three on the first-team and one on the second-team with two athletes additionally named honorable mention.
Juniors Mary Atkinson and Brittany Schuett and sophomore Kahoku Palafox were each selected to the first team. Schuett, a floor specialist for the Sun Devils, earned first-team honors for the second-time of her career. With a 4.0 grade point average as a double major in Speech and Hearing Science and psychology, she holds the conference's highest GPA. Atkinson, who was recently named to the All-Pac-10 team as an all-arounder, boasts a 3.54 in Bioscience. Atkinson, who is also in ASU's prestigious Barrett Honors College, was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Second-Team last season. With a 3.69 in Sustainability, Palafox has been recognized for the first time by the Pac-10. She has been in the uneven bars and balance beam lineup for the team all season.
Sophomore Callie Price earned second-team honors. Price, who is one of the team's top vaulters, currently holds a 3.57 in Kinesiology. Senior Kaitlynn Bormann and Kelly Reilly were selected as honorable mention.
The ASU gymnastics team will head to Los Angeles next weekend for the NCAA West Regional.
