Silvestri named Pac-10 Player of the Week

Arizona State junior goalkeeper Briana Silvestri has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Sept. 9-15, according to an announcement by Commissioner Tom Hansen on Tuesday.

Silvestri, a native of Terra Linda, Calif., helped extend ASU's unbeaten streak to three after shutting out both Baylor and the seventh-ranked Texas Longhorns on the road. After holding Baylor and a Texas team, who came into to the match averaging 2.6 goals per game, scoreless, Silvestri now ranks fourth on ASUs all-time shutouts list with nine.

Since missing the first three games of the season because of injury, Silvestri has tallied 12 saves and only allowed one goal in four games. She has not allowed a goal in her last 360 minutes on the field. She is currently ranked seventh in the nation with a .237 goals against average.

This is Silvestri's first player of the week honor and the 10th for Arizona State all-time.

ASU (3-2-2) begins a seven-game homestand on Friday when it hosts CSU Northridge at 7 p.m. The Sun Devils will then conclude the weekend on Sunday when they face Michigan at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe.
