Silvestri named Pac-10 Player of the Week


Arizona State junior goalkeeper <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/silvestri_briana00.htm… Silvestri</a> has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Sept. 9-15, according to an announcement by Commissioner Tom Hansen on Tuesday. <br /><br />Silvestri, a native of Terra Linda, Calif., helped extend ASU's unbeaten streak to three after shutting out both Baylor and the seventh-ranked Texas Longhorns on the road. After holding Baylor and a Texas team, who came into to the match averaging 2.6 goals per game, scoreless, Silvestri now ranks fourth on ASUs all-time shutouts list with nine.<br /><br />Since missing the first three games of the season because of injury, Silvestri has tallied 12 saves and only allowed one goal in four games. She has not allowed a goal in her last 360 minutes on the field. She is currently ranked seventh in the nation with a .237 goals against average.<br /><br />This is Silvestri's first player of the week honor and the 10th for Arizona State all-time.<br /><br />ASU (3-2-2) begins a seven-game homestand on Friday when it hosts CSU Northridge at 7 p.m. The Sun Devils will then conclude the weekend on Sunday when they face Michigan at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe.<!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE --></p>
