Reaves and Giordano light up the boards as volleyball tops Oregon State


Margie Giordano and Sarah Reaves teamed up for 39 of ASU's 59 kills Friday night as the Sun Devil Volleyball team collected a 25-15, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-22 win over the Oregon State Beavers. Reaves also collected a career-high 26 digs as she helped lead ASU to their now 13-15 overall record and 4-11 Pac-10 record. The Beavers with the loss drop to 14-14 overall and 3-12 in conference play.

While Oregon State may have grabbed the first couple points in the first set, it was all ASU afterwards as they came out with a smoking .333 attack percentage while slamming home 13 kills and collecting four blocks to keep the Beaver attack quiet en route to a 25-15 win in the first with Sarah Reaves leading the way with four kills.

Set two saw the Beavers come back in the game lead by their defense as seven team blocks held the Sun Devil offense at bay. ASU didn't help their cause as well with 12 unforced errors in the set allowed OSU back in the set and the match as they knotted it at 1-1 going into the break with a 25-21 win.

The third set saw both the Sun Devils and Beavers battle it out for a neck-and-neck set with 12 tie scores and four lead changes. In the end, ASU barely edged the Beavers in kills with 17 and collected three more blocks to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-23 win in the third.

Set four showcased A State volleyball as the Sun Devils took the first point and never looked back as Margie Giordano and Sarah Reaves teamed up to light it up with six and five kills apiece to tally 11 of ASU's 17 kills in the set en route to a 25-22 win to seal the match.

The Sun Devils will now set to host their final home match tomorrow against the sixth-ranked Oregon Ducks. The match is set to kick-off at 7 p.m. in Tempe at ASU's Wells Fargo Arena.
