A late run by Arizona State (9-12, 1-8) sent the game into overtime but the Sun Devils were unable to knock off the UCLA Bruins (14-7, 6-3) in extra time as they lost 73-72. Despite being down as many as 15 points, ASU was able to make a substantial run with minutes left to tie the game and force overtime.

A missed free throw by center Jordan Bachynski was tipped in by Trent Lockett with around 20 seconds left to tie the game at 61. Bachynski hit the first free throw after he was fouled going to the hoop.

UCLA drained three consecutive three pointers to start overtime. The Sun Devils fought back from there, only to lose by one point and were dealt their seventh consecutive loss.

"We have to find a way to make the plays late. We gave ourselves a chance obviously and went into the overtime period, spotted them three threes right off the bat and it's tough to overcome that", commented Jamelle McMillan. "So you know if we're able to play, to put two halves together the way we put the second half together then hopefully we will be on the other end of the stick."

The Sun Devils struggled to find any offensive rhythm in the first half as they fell behind early and found themselves down 32-19 at the half. The troubles continued early in the second half but they finally were able to find rhythm and make big plays with the crowd behind them in their late drive.

Trent Lockett led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds. Rihards Kuksiks put up 15 while Jamelle McMillan added 13. The Sun Devils shot 37.3 percent (25 of 67) from the field and 41.2 percent (7 of 17) from behind the arc as a team.

Jordan Bachynski provided a big spark for the Sun Devils with a pair dunks and rebounds with just over six minutes to play bringing the quiet crowd into the game. Bachynski finished with eight points and four rebounds.

Senior guard Ty Abbott got into foul trouble early and was limited to only 24 minutes of playing time. Abbott is averaging 34.4 minutes per game this season.

The Bruins had four players in double digits with Lazeric Jones leading the team with 18. They shot 46.4 percent (26 of 56) and 29.4 percent (5 of 17) from three. "You have to make the plays to win the game on both ends of the floor. We made some really good plays, but we didn't make enough of them to win tonight", commented coach Herb Sendek.

Arizona State travels to Berkeley, California on Thursday, February 3 to take on the Cal Bears. The game will be televised at 8 p.m. on Fox Sports Net.
