Print U serves university needs

February 11, 2010

Canon’s new on-campus print center, located at the lower level Memorial Union, aims to serve the print needs of students, faculty and staff by helping to relieve some of the stresses that come with trying to meet due dates and finish projects.

The Print U is the latest project under ASU’s partnership with Canon.

“Print U is a state-of-the-art service center,” said Robert Lane, director of Digital Document Services.

The newest on-campus print center uses the latest in imaging technology and introduces more document management programs to ASU. Current services provided by Print U include: wide-format poster printing, course notes, faxing, booklets, banners, binding, black-and-white, color printing and more.

“I look forward to becoming a more integrated part of ASU and showcase our services to the students, faculty and staff,” said Sarah Carpenter, operations manager of Print U. Additionally, a portion of Print U’s profits will go to support and develop various programs at ASU.

The development of Print U began three years ago when ASU and Canon began its partnership in sustainable development. The alliance wanted to find ways to print responsibly and encourage the use of campus resources.

“ASU’s growth in world-class programs makes Print U a great addition,” said Steven Lewis, faculty associate. “A central place for faculty to go to and get booklets and projects is a great service especially when we use on-campus services and support our university.”

In efforts to reduce those deadline stresses, the center offers free pick-up and delivery to departments across Tempe campus. Print U aims to attract more department print projects by emphasizing the convenience of such services.

“It’s great to finally have a place like Print U on campus that can help with my printing needs,” said Philip Weech, a junior in accounting from Pima.

The renovated space also houses the Sun Card office and information about ASU’s Parking and Transit Services. The MU location was chosen to provide a central touch point for the university community. Ease of access made the MU the most viable site. The one-stop shop centralizes many of the needs of the university into a single center. Now, students can get their Sun Card, parking information and printing all within moments.

The Print U location is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, visit Print U online, e-mail or call 480-965-COPY.
