October 21, 2011

Armando A. Piña, associate professor of psychology, received the 2011 Faculty of the Year award from the Arizona Psychological Association (AzPA).

The award ceremony took place at the Awards Luncheon during the 2011 AzPA Annual Convention, Oct. 14. This award is rotated on an annual basis between Arizona institutions. Piña was honored as an outstanding researcher, teacher, and mentor.

Piña is collaborating with the Scottsdale Unified School District, Kyrene School District, Tempe School District, Roosevelt School District, and Gilbert School District to tailor his intervention for childhood anxiety into a school-based RTI (response to intervention) tier-2 model program. The program will be disseminated through local schools to promote resilience in students and prevent the onset of phobic and anxiety disorders. The program, "REACH for academic and personal success!," is expected to launch in Fall 2012.
