No. 18 Sun Devil gymnastics falls to No. 7 Huskers


The No. 18 Arizona State gymnastics team fell 195.550-193.075 to the No. 7 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Tiana Jean and Beaté Jones both competed in the all-around for the Sun Devils. Both athletes finished with career-bests in the all-around. Jean finished the night with a score of 38.900 while Jones scored a 38.600.

Beginning the meet on bars, Nicole Harris and Tiana Jean both had season highs with scores of 9.800 to tie for fourth overall. Suffering three falls, Jones was the next highest scoring Sun Devil with a career-best 9.500. The Sun Devils scored a 47.525 in the event.

The Sun Devils fared much better on vault, compiling a score of 48.625. Ashlee Hinkle had the best score for the Sun Devils, tallying a 9.800. Competing on vault for the first time this season, Harris was the second-highest scoring Devil with a 9.750. Freshmen Mary Atkinson and Jones both posted 9.725. Atkinson's score marks a career high for her. Jean hit her vault with a 9.625, while Brittany Schuett scored a 9.600.

On floor, the Sun Devils recorded a team score of 48.550. Jones led the team with a career-high 9.775. Jean was the next-highest scoring Devil with a 9.750 while Hinkle posted a 9.725. Atkinson hit her second routine of the night, tallying a score of 9.675.

The Sun Devils posted a team score of 48.375 on beam. Jean and Hinkle were the leading Devils with scores of 9.725 each. Harris finished the night with a 9.675 on beam while Bormann recorded a 9.650. Jones posted a 9.600.

The Sun Devils travel to the Bay Area next week to take on Pac-10 foe California. The meet begins at 2 p.m. PT on Sunday Jan. 20.
