No. 14 Arizona State blows out Yale 84-38

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Dymond Simon scored 17 points and sparked a 34-2 run in the first half to help No. 14 Arizona State beat Yale 84-38 on Monday night.

The 5-foot-5 Simon also grabbed five rebounds, had three assists and led eight different scorers during the first-half spurt that began after Yale scored two early baskets.

Arizona State (2-1) led 43-15 at the half.

Jamie Van Horne led the Bulldogs with nine points.

Briann January added 13 points and six assists while Kirsten Thompson had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Sun Devils, who have won two straight after a season-opening loss to North Carolina.

Lindsey Williams added eight points for Yale (0-2), which opened the season with a 100-44 loss to No. 5 Stanford on Nov. 9.

The Bulldogs turned a pair of early Sun Devil turnovers into easy baskets to take a 4-0 lead in the first three minutes before Arizona State ran off eight straight points. Yale got another layup but then Simon, who suffered a knee ligament injury 10 months ago, hit a 3-pointer and a layup to begin a 26-0 run.

Yale missed 19 of its 24 first-half shots and were outrebounded 29-11 in the first 20 minutes.
