Men's tennis off to North Carolina


<p>This Week<br /> The Arizona State men's tennis team will make its 19th postseason appearance on May 10th. The Sun Devils will take on No. 43 Duke in the NCAA Regional hosted by the University of North Carolina. The Sun Devils last trip to the postseason was in 2004 when the Sun Devils made it to the second round before falling to Illinois.<br /></p><separator></separator><p>Sun Devils in the Rankings<br /> Currently No. 23 in the nation, the Sun Devils have their highest ranking entering the postseason since the 1999 season when ASU made it to the Round of 16 before falling to then No. 1 Illinois. Singles players <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/arango_andres00.html">… Arango</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/brooklyn_matt00.html">… Brooklyn</a> are currently ranked No. 69 and No. 74 respectively. Brooklyn and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/bellama_tj00.html">T.J. Bellama</a> are No. 44 in doubles.<br /></p><separator></separator><p>Devil of a Match-Up<br /> Duke (10-13) is currently ranked No. 43. The Blue Devils have one doubles team and two singles players ranked. David Goulet is currently ranked 55th in singles while Reid Carleton is No. 78. The doubles team of Goulet and Christopher Price are No. 33 nationally. <br /></p><separator></separator><p>If ASU Wins...<br /> If the Sun Devils advance to the second round, they will play either North Carolina or South Carolina State. Host North Carolina (19-5) is ranked 12th nationally. The Tar Heels have two doubles team and three singles players ranked. The singles players include No. 73 Stefan Hardy, No. 91 Chris Kearney and No. 115 Benjamin Carlotti. Their doubles team ranked are No. 6 Taylor Fogleman and Kearney and No. 54 Hardy and Clay Donato. South Carolina State finished the season 18-4.<br /></p><separator></separator><p>Recap<br /> The Sun Devils capped a successful Pac-10 Championships by having one singles player and one doubles team make it to the finals of their respective flight. No. 44 doubles team of Brooklyn and Bellama placed second overall in the Championships Doubles Flight after falling to the No. 2 nationally ranked USC Kaes Van't Hof and Robert Farah 6-4, 6-4. Junior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/miller_wes00.html">Wes Miller</a> had a successful run in the Inviational Singles Flight as he won four matches to get to the final. Miller, who entered the flight as a four seed, fell to No. 2 seeded Bozhidar Katsarov from California. <br /></p><separator></separator><p>You Go Arango!<br /> Sophomore <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/arango_andres00.html">… Arango</a> has had a very successful debut season with the Sun Devils. Currently ranked 69th in the nation, Arango has gone 5-5 against ranked opponents since joining ASU's squad. Arango's wins against ranked opponents have included No. 59 Holden Seguso (UCLA), #105 Kallim Stewart (Cal) and No. 118 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (UW). Arango also notched two victories over ranked opponents at the ASU Spring Invitational when he picked up wins over No. 19 Ryan Rowe (Illinois) and No. 46 Ed Corrie (Texas).<br /></p><separator></separator><p>Miller Time<br /> Junior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/miller_wes00.html">Wes Miller</a> has been a force to be reckoned with this season. Playing primarily in the No. 5 position, the Newport Beach native has won nine out of the ten of his last matches and sported an impressive 13-5 dual record this season. Miller placed second in the Invitational Singles Flight at the Pac-10 Championships, the lone Sun Devil singles player to advance past the Round of 16.<br /></p><separator></separator><p>Pac-10 Recognized<br /> The Sun Devils have had a record number of athletes recognized for Pac-10 Player of the Week this season. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/bellama_tj00.html">T.J. Bellama</a>, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/brooklyn_matt00.html">… Brooklyn</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/rebaza_juancarlos00.ht… Carlos Rebaza</a> have each earned a weekly conference honor this season. Bellama was selected for the week of March 11-16. Brooklyn was named Pac-10 POTW for the week of February 11-16. Rebaza was recognized for his accomplishments during the week of March 3-9.</p>
