Men's golf set for Battle at the Beach
The Arizona State men's golf team is competing in the Battle at the Beach Feb. 13-15 in Newport Coast, Calif. Hosted by Long Beach State, the event is being held at The Resort at Pelican Hill on the par-70, 6,900-yard Ocean North Course.
Seniors Jesper Kennegard and Scott Pinckney will both be looking to record their second consecutive top-10 finish after they tied for sixth at the Amer Ari Invitational Feb. 2-4. Junior Philip Francis is competing in his sixth event of the 2010-11 season and senior Thomas Buran is appearing in his fifth. This will be the second tournament of the season for senior Oscar Zetterwall, who tied for 28th in his debut at the Amer Ari Invitational. Senior James Byrne rounds out the Sun Devils' lineup. All six golfers competed in the Amer Ari Invitational, ASU's first tournament of the 2011 spring season.
The first and second rounds, taking place on Sunday, Feb. 13 and Monday, Feb. 14, respectively, will begin at 7:00 a.m. (PST) and the third round will tee off at 8:30 a.m. (PST) Tuesday, Feb. 15.
ASU finished sixth in the 2010 Battle at the Beach with a 9-over par 1,074 (359-363-352) and was led by Kennegard, who tied for eighth after posting a 5-under par 208 (71-71-66).
UCLA took first place in last year's inaugural event by one stroke over Washington and Arkansas. Oregon State finished fourth followed by San Diego State in fifth.
