Men's golf places third at PING/Golfweek preview

The men's golf team took third place Monday in the PING/Golfweek Preview at the Gold Mountain Golf Complex in Bremerton, Wash. The second-ranked Sun Devils finished with a 25-over par 889 (300-293-296) on the 7,152-yard par-72 Olympic Course. Senior Knut Borsheim and junior Scott Pinckney tied for the team lead at 4-over par 220.

Borsheim and Pinckney each fired an even par 72 in the final round of the preview to move into a four-way tie for sixth place in the individual standings. Borsheim shot a 4-over par 148 (76-72-72) Sunday, while Pinckney also tallied a 4-over par 148 (75-73-72) thru the first 36 holes.

Junior Jesper Kennegard tied for 12th with a 6-over par 222 (75-73-74) after recording a 2-over par 74 in the final round. Senior Braxton Marquez ended the tournament tied for 36th after carding a 12-over par 228 (75-75-78) and Tristan Bierenbroodspot, also a senior, collected a 16-over par 232 (75-78-79) to tie for 51st.

No. 3 Oklahoma State won the event behind the play of sophomore Peter Uihlein, who took home the top individual spot after firing a 5-under par 211 (69-71-71). The Cowboys ended with a 2-under par 862 (290-287-285) and No. 12 Washington, host of the preview, finished in second with a 20-over par 884 (295-294-295).

Men's golf resumes action on Oct. 25, when they travel to Orlando, Fla. for the three-day Isleworth Invitational
