MacPhee named semifinalist for Golden Spikes Award


<p>Arizona State sophomore second baseman <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/macphee_zack00.html">Z… MacPhee</a> has been named a semifinalist for the 2010 Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced June 1. The award is presented annually to the top player in college baseball.</p><separator></separator><p>MacPhee (Phoenix, Ariz.) is hitting .381 with eight home runs and a team-leading 59 runs batted in. He has also tripled 14 times, setting a new school record. The previous record of 13 was set by 2010 College Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Alan Bannister in 1971. MacPhee is slugging a team leading .683, has drawn 39 walks and also stolen 18 bases.</p><separator></separator><p>The 30 semifinalists will be pared down to five finalists. The 2010 GSA will be awarded live at MLB's All-Star FanFest in Anaheim on Tuesday, July 13. This marks the fourth straight year Arizona State has had a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.</p><separator></separator><!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE --></p>
