Lockwood, Sanford named ASU Athletes of the Week
Softball player Annie Lockwood has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 17th. Lockwood continues to be a dominating force in the middle of the line-up, as she batted .375 on the weekend, while also hitting two home runs. Her strong performance so far this season has the Sun Devils at 35-6 and 4-2 in Pac-10 play. The Sun Devils swept the Bruins over the weekend in Westwood for the first time in program history. The Sun Devils continue their Pac-10 season as they face the Cal Golden Bears this weekend, beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. PT. Sophomore outfielder Annie Lockwood who's .375 average for two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored for a .545 on-base percentage and blazing 1.125 slugging percentage powered the Sun Devils in the sweep of the UCLA Bruins in Westwood over the weekend. Her two home runs boost her to 11 on the year, good for 17th all-time in ASU single-season records as well. Track sprinter Donald Sanford has been named ASU's Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 17th. Sanford had an amazing weekend for the Sun Devil track team, as he posted a personal best in the 400m dash, while also helping the 4x400m relay team secure not only the win but the seventh-best time in the nation this year. Next up for the Sun Devils will be a trip to the Mt. SAC Relays that will be held next Thursday through Saturday in Walnut, Calif. The senior had a pair of impressive runs for the Sun Devil sprinters at the 31st Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe as he posted a personal-best time in the 400m dash and helped the 4x400m relay to victory. Sanford first clocked in at 45.72 to take second to Lancford Davis (2010 Jamaica World Championship 4x400m member) in the quarter, which stands as the fourth-best time in the NCAA and 12th in the world. Sanford then ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay to help the Sun Devils win in 3:05.94, which is the seventh-best time in the nation this year.
