Leake named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week and a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball


Arizona State junior RHP Mike Leake has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced today. It marks the third time this season Leake has won the weekly award from the Pac-10. It is also the 55th time a Sun Devil has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the week and the fifth time this year a Sun Devil has won a weekly conference award. Jason Kipnis was named the Player of the Week after the opening weekend of play and Josh Spence was named Pitcher of the Week on April 6.

In addition to the award from the Pac-10, Leake was also named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. It is the second time this season Leake has won a national award from the publication and the second time he has won an award from the conference and the newspaper in the same week.

Leake threw perhaps his best game in his career, recording his first career complete game shutout in a 9-0 win over Oregon. Leake fanned 12 Ducks without allowing a walk and gave up only three hits, facing two batters over the minimum. he is 13-1 on the season, tying his career high for victories in a single year. He also has 116 strikeouts so far, a new career high.

Leake and the Sun Devils clinched their third consecutive Pac-10 title with the sweep of Oregon.
