Leake named finalist for Pitcher of the Year Award

Arizona State University junior pitcher Mike Leake has been named one of five finalists for the Pitcher of the Year Award, the College Baseball Foundation announced Friday.

Leake (Fallbrook, Calif.) is 13-1 with a 1.35 ERA and has 116 strikeouts with just 18 walks on the season. He leads the Pacific-10 Conference in wins, ERA, strikeouts and innings pitched (106.2), and he has thrown five complete games this season. The 2008 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, Leake currently ranks fifth in school history with 37 wins on the mound.

In addition, Leake was recently named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII selection for the second consecutive year, making him eligible for selection as an Academic All-American.

The Pitcher of the Year winner will be announced on June 13, and the Award will be officially presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.
