Leake earns honors from Collegiate Baseball again


Arizona State junior RHP Mike Leake has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced today. It marks the second time this month Leake has won the weekly award from the Pac-10. It is also the 53rd time a Sun Devil has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the week and the third time this year a Sun Devil has won a weekly conference award. Jason Kipnis was named the Player of the Week after the opening weekend of play.

In addition to the award from the Pac-10, Leake was also named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. It is the first time in his career Leake has won a national award from the publication.

Leake set the tone for the Sun Devils in the first game of a series sweep over rival Arizona to open Conference play on Friday night. The Fallbrook, Calif., native threw his fifth career complete game, allowing five hits and one run while striking out a career high 15 batters. The junior is now 5-1 on the season and holds a 1.35 ERA. He has struck out 48 batters on the year, ranking first in the Pac-10.

Leake and the Sun Devils return to action on Friday night, as they travel to Los Angeles, California for a Pac-10 series with USC at Dedeaux Field.
