Kipnis named Pac-10 Player of the Week


<p> Arizona State junior OF <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/kipnis_jason00.html">J… Kipnis</a> has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced today. It's the second time in his career that Kipnis has won the award and marks the second straight year a Sun Devil won the award on Opening Weekend. It is also the 90th time a Sun Devil has won a weekly award from the conference.</p><separator></separator><p>In addition to the conference award, Kipnis was also named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. This is the first national award for Kipnis.</p><separator></separator><p>Kipnis was nearly unstoppable during the opening weekend for Arizona State, reaching base his first 10 trips to the plate. The Northbrook, Ill., native was 12-for-17 and finished with a .706 batting average (.762 OBP). Kipnis led the Sun Devils to a four-game sweep over Wisconsin-Milwaukee by slugging a whopping 1.588 percent, aided by three home runs, four doubles and a triple. Two of his home runs came in the first game of a doubleheader, his third career multi-homer game. He also drove in eight runs, drew four walks and stole two bases for the Devils.</p><separator></separator><p>Kipnis and the Devils host the #15 Missouri Tigers tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. <!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE --></p>
