Kennegard, Pinckney lead men's golf to fifth place in Las Vegas

The Arizona State men's golf team, led by top-10 finishes by seniors Jesper Kennegard and Scott Pinckney, took fifth place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas. The Sun Devils carded a 25-over par 889 (292-303-294) at the three-day tournament after shooting a 6-over par 294 in the final round.
Kennegard shot a 2-over par 74 in the third round and finished in a tie for ninth at 3-over par 219 (71-74-74). Pinckeny, who also tied for ninth, recorded an even par 72 in the final day to end at 3-over par 219 (70-77-72).
Senior Thomas Buran tied for 25th with an 8-over par 224 (76-76-72) after recording his best round of the tournament, an even par 72, on the final day. Junior Spencer Fletcher ended in a tie for 58th at 15--over par 231 (75-76-80) following an 8-over par in the third round and senior Oscar Zetterwall shot a 4-over 76, leaving him in a tie for 60th with a 16-over par 232 (76-80-76).
Oklahoma State, paced by individual champion Morgan Hoffmann, placed first with a 1-under par 863 (294-286-283). Texas A&M took second at 6-over par 870 (280-296-294), followed by a pair of Pac-10 schools as California finished third at 9-over par 873 (294-276-303) and UCLA placed fourth at 12-over par 876 (301-283-292). USC tied for 12th and Arizona ended in 15th.
The Sun Devils host the ASU Thunderbird Invitational April 9-10 at ASU's Karsten Golf Course in Tempe.
