Kennegard and Williams named ASU Athletes of the Week
ASU Athletes Jesper Kennegard (M Golf) and Charonda Williams (W Track and Field) have been named Arizona State's Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 23rd. Both gave outstanding performances in their respective sports over the weekend.
Kennegard won the NCAA West Regional and led ASU to the team title with a 12-under 204 as ASU clinched its 16th NCAA Championship appearance in Randy Lein's 17 years. It marked the second title for Kennegard in his two seasons.
Williams became the first woman in the history of the Pac-10 Conference to win the 100m dash and 200m dash in the same meet in consecutive years as she blasted the field with a school-record 11.14 in the 100m and an easy 23.05 in the 200m. In the 100m dash, she entered the season with a personal best time of 11.41 and ran 11.44 to open her season before running three school-records in a row, including times of 11.29, 11.26 and 11.14. Williams also anchored the victorious 4x100m relay (44.10) after scoring eighth in the long jump (6.03m), only her second long jump competition in her two years at ASU.
