Kelcy McKenna to play in ITA All-American Championships
Arizona State University sophomore Kelcy McKenna will be playing in the 2008 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, with play in the Main Draw beginning Thursday and continuing through Sunday at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
McKenna comes into the event with momentum from her strong play at last week's Cal Nike Invitational. She won the ITA Singles Gold title, defeating Alexandra Poorta of St. Mary's in the final, and then she teamed with fellow sophomore Micaela Hein to take the ITA Doubles Gold crown, beating California's Bojana Bobusic and Jana Juricova in the final match.
McKenna had a standout freshman campaign last year, recording a team-best 33 wins in singles play and another 28 wins in doubles and finished the year ranked No. 27 in the nation by the ITA. She received Second-Team All-Pac-10 honors, won the Wilson/ITA West Region Rookie of the Year and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2007-08. In addition, she became only the fourth player in program history to win Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, which she received for the week of April 1, 2008.
