Josh Satow pitches #1 baseball past #19 Arkansas

Top ranked Arizona State improved to 14-0 and swept a two-game series with No. 19 Arkansas with a 7-4 victory Wednesday in front of a crowd of 3,033 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.

Senior Josh Satow started and earned the victory, going 7.2 innings and allowing just three hits and two earned runs while striking out seven Razorbacks. He is now 2-0 on the season.

The Sun Devils loaded the bases in the second inning with no outs, but got just one run on the board as junior Ike Davis scored when senior Ryan Sontag grounded into a double play.

They extended the lead in the third, as junior Brett Wallace hit his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot to center, to give ASU a 4-0 lead.

Arkansas first baseman Andy Wilkins hit a two-run home run to center in the sixth, but the Sun Devils answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Petey Paramore drove in two with a single through the right side, and sophomore Raoul Torrez then scored on a throwing error by Razorback shortstop Tim Smalling after Paramore appeared to be caught in a rundown between first and second.

The Razorbacks scored two more in the eighth on a two-run single by Jacob House, but junior Reyes Dorado came on from the bullpen to get the final out of the inning and preserve a three-run lead. Senior Tommy Rafferty then earned his first save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two in the process.

Paramore was 3-4 at the plate to lead the ASU offense, and Torrez also had two hits in the victory.

The Sun Devils return to action Friday, as they begin a three-game series with Troy. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
