Johnson selected to represent USA in Spirit International


<p> Freshman standout women's golf <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-golf/mtt/johnson_jennifer00.html"… Johnson</a> has been selected of one of two amateurs from the United States to participate in the 2009 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship. The Championship will run from November 4-7, at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. Along with the United States, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Chinese-Taipei, Colombia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, Scotland, South Africa and Sweden make up the participating countries. Two female and two male amateur golfers from each participating country are chosen to compete in the Olympic-like experience. There will be a webcast on www.golfstat.com. Johnson will join senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-golf/mtt/murcia_juliana00.html">J… Murcia</a> as the two ASU women's golfers who have participated in the prestigious event.</p><separator></separator><p>At the conclusion of the fall, Johnson has been arguably the Sun Devils most consistent player. The California girl has placed in the top 10 in all three tournaments she has participated in and is currently the top-ranked freshman in the Golf Stat Cup. While she has certainly had a solid start in college, she came into ASU after a productive summer in which she was a finalist at the U.S. Women's Amateur and a quarterfinalist at the 2009 U.S. Girls Championship. She recently earned the AJGA Rolex All-American second-team.</p><separator></separator><p>Women's Golf Retains No. 1 Spot<br />The ASU women's golf team retained its No. 1 ranking in the Golf World/NGCA Women's Coaches Poll. The Sun Devils are followed by UCLA, Purdue, Auburn and Michigan State.
