Johnny Coy inks with men's basketball program


<p> The Arizona State men&#39;s basketball program and Coach <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/sendek_herb00.html">He… Sendek</a> have announced the signing 6-7 swingman Johnny Coy in the fall signing period, which runs from Nov. 14-21.</p><separator></separator><p>&quot;We are thrilled to have Johnny joining our program next fall,&quot; says <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/sendek_herb00.html">He… Sendek</a>. &quot;He is an outstanding student and competitor whose work ethic and character is what we are striving for in our program. Our staff did a tremendous job. His skills are very good and he keeps on improving, which has our staff excited for the future.&quot;</p><separator></separator><p>The St. Joseph&#39;s, Mo., native averaged a school-record 27.5 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and six blocks per game in his junior season and earned all-state honors as his team posted a 24-4 mark and advanced to the state quarterfinals, where he had 27 points and 13 boards before falling to the eventual state champion.</p><separator></separator><p>Also an accomplished baseball player, Coy hit .479 with 10 home runs and 52 RBI and 39 runs scored as his team won the state title.</p><separator></separator><p>Coy is the fifth member of his family to earn all-state basketball honors and the third all-state baseball player in the family. His father earned the first basketball honor in 1969. He has two sisters who played college basketball, while his brother and father both played college baseball.</p><separator></separator><p>Off the court, John was named to the National Honor&#39;s Society and this past quarter had a 4.0 grade point average. He has been ranked as high as #112 according to Rivals.com despite baseball commitments taking part during the summer AAU basketball season. He played for the KC Pump &#39;n Run in AAU action this past year and played in Tulsa, Kansas City and Las Vegas.</p>
