Jason Watson named co-head coach of USA Volleyball's A2 team


USA Volleyball has selected 24 players and four coaches to lead its U.S. Women’s National A2 Program for 2009. One of the Co-Head Coaches of choice was Arizona State's Head Coach, Jason Watson, who will enter his second year as a Sun Devil come this fall.

The 2009 U.S. Women’s National A2 Program is scheduled to train May 18-22 in Minneapolis before being split into two 12-player rosters to compete in the Open Division of the 2009 USA Adult Open Championships. The Open Division flight takes place May 23-26 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Additional information on the tournament can be found at http://usavolleyball.org/event/event/574.

The 2009 U.S. Women’s National A2 Team includes four setters, 10 outside/opposite hitters, six middles and four liberos. The 24 players come from 19 different collegiate programs.

In addition, USA Volleyball has announced the coaching staff for the U.S. Women’s National A2 Teams. Kansas State University Head Coach Suzie Fritz and Arizona State University Head Coach Jason Watson will serve as head coaches for the program, while University of the Pacific Assistant Coach Aven Lee and University of Minnesota Associate Head Coach Scott Swanson will serve as assistant coaches.

On the award, Watson stated, "This is an exciting opportunity - to coach this select and talented group of our athletes. Each of them has an impressive athletic resume and are worthy of selection. I look forward to coaching them and enjoying the competitve experience of representing USA Volleyball."

The ASU volleyball team will continue it's spring season this weekend as well as they travel to compete in a tournament in Flagstaff, Ariz. at Northern Arizona University.
