Haas, Boateng named ASU Athletes of the Week


<p>The sixth-ranked women's water polo team was led this past weekend by <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-wpolo/mtt/haas_shannon00.html">Sh… Haas</a> who has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 13th. Her best performance at the Cal Lutheran Invitational came against CS East Bay where she scored five goals to lead the Sun Devils to a 20-2 win. Her spectacular performance over the weekend gave the Sun Devils 5 wins and they now sit at 11-5 overall. Haas and the Sun Devils open MPSF conference play March 13 at UCLA. ASU will face the Bruins at 1:00 p.m. (PST) in Los Angeles before playing a non-conference match March 14 against Long Beach State at 12:00 p.m. (PST) in Long Beach, Calif.</p><separator></separator><p>A true freshman, Haas led the #6 Sun Devil water polo team to a 5-0 record over the weekend at the Cal Lutheran Invitational as she scored at least one goal in all five contests and finished the weekend with 13 total goals, tied for the most on the team. Haas netted five goals against CS East Bay while chipping in three against CS Monterey Bay. She also scored twice against #10 CS Northridge in the opener before adding two against Whittier and one against Pomona-Pitzer.</p><separator></separator><p>Men's basketball player <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/boateng_eric00.html">E… Boateng</a> has been named ASU's Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 13th. Boateng continued to come through in the clutch games, lifting the Sun Devils to a big victory over USC and UCLA. The wins gave the Sun Devils sole possession of second place in the Pac-10. On senior night, Boateng recorded a double double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Boateng and the Sun Devils now head to the Pac-10 tournament in Los Angeles where they will face Stanford on Thursday at 7:00 PM MT.</p><separator></separator><p>This past weekend, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/boateng_eric00.html">E… Boateng</a> recorded averages of 10.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 3 blocks a game versus the Los Angeles schools. One of Boateng's best performances on the year came on senior night against UCLA where he notched a double double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. The emotional day ended with a fitting performance as Boateng was the only Sun Devil to score in double figures. He continually gave the Sun Devils extra possessions with his 6 offensive rebounds. He also was a huge defensive presence as he recorded 4 blocked shots. In his past 11 games he is 52-of-77 (.675) from the floor and is averaging 11.0 points and 8.5 boards with 15 blocks.
