Gymnastics signs two for 2010 season

November 24, 2008

The Arizona State women's gymnastics announces that Christina Salavec and Nicole Johnson have both signed National Letters of Intent to study and compete at Arizona State starting in fall of 2009.

Salavec will join the Sun Devil squad after previously competing for Gold Medal Gymnastics Center in New York. She took first in the all-around at the 2007 Level 10 Regional Championships and finished third at Junior Olympic Nationals on floor. She will look to give the team depth in all four events.

"Christina is a very outstanding athlete," says 29th year head coach John Spini. "I think her strengths are going to be vault, floor and beam and I think she's a good barworker."

Johnson heads to Tempe from Indiana where she competed for DeVeaus School of Gymnastics. A highly touted recruit, Johnson will look to make an immediate impact on vault, bars and floor for the Sun Devils.

"Nicole has some really raw ability.; she is just very talented," says Spini. "She's very strong on bars, very quick off the floor. She's a very aggressive gymnastics. She's a very outstanding athlete. She's going to come in and help us right away."
