Food City sponsors wrestling duals vs. Minnesota, Cal Poly
Giving back to the community has been a major theme for the Arizona State University wrestling program and this week's dual with No. 9 Minnesota will once again show case that as local grocery chain Food City will sponsor the first of two Sun Devil duals this year while also contributing to the UMOM New Day Centers in the Valley.
"I think working in the community that supports you is a great thing and Food City is really taking charge to show that we can all contribute," Head Coach Thom Ortiz said. "Not only is Food City helping our program by sponsoring our duals with Minnesota and Cal Poly, they are also donating to a great program that helps families in the community. We thank Food City for their generosity not only to ASU Wrestling, but also to the children of Phoenix that need their help."
Food City's monetary donations will not only help the Sun Devil program in their quest for full endowment, but also will assist the operation efforts at the UMOM New Day Centers in Phoenix. UMOM has come to the aid of the community since 1964 and has offered basic necessities plus education, recreation, health screenings and assessments, 24-hour security, hygiene items, cleaning supplies and resources for financial assistance, job training and placement, continuing education, counseling, medical services, legal assistance and much more.
The sponsorship by Food City also will extend to the Sun Devils' next home dual when they play host to Pac-10 rival, Cal Poly, at 7 p.m. on January 31 inside Wells Fargo Arena.
