Eleven soccer players named to Pac-10's All-Academic Team


<p>Eleven members of the Arizona State women's soccer program earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors, according to an announcement by the conference office.</p><separator></separator><p>Included among the 11 players, which tied with three other schools for most in the Pac-10, were three first-team members - senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/harkin_liz00.html">Liz Harkin</a> and juniors <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/elston_alexandra00.htm… Elston</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/johns_lindsey00.html">… Johns</a> - and three second-team members - senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/kallas_carly00.html">C… Kallas</a> and sophomores <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/richardson_jessie00.ht… Richardson</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/shepard_katie00.html">… Shepard</a>.<br /><br />Harkin, who holds 3.82 GPA in biology &amp; society, was named to the first team for the third consecutive season while Elston (3.92 GPA/speech and hearing) earned first-team recognition for the second time in as many years. Johns previously earned honorable mention honors in 2007. ASU's three first-team honorees were the most of any team in the conference while its combined six first- and second-team honorees were also the most in the conference. ASU's nine first-team honorees over the last three years are the most of any school in the Pac-10 during that span.<br /><br />Kallas (3.66 GPA/elementary education) was named to the second team after earning honorable mention kudos each of the last two seasons. Richardson (3.68 GPA/secondary education) also earned honorable mention notice last season while Shepard earned second-team honors this season in her first season of eligibility for the Pac-10 All-Academic Team.<br /><br />The Sun Devils also had five student-athletes named to the honorable mention list: Senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/silvestri_briana00.htm… Silvestri</a> (third consecutive season), juniors <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/shoquist_jill00.html">… Shoquist</a> (second consecutive season) and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/volpe_karin00.html">Ka… Volpe</a> (second consecutive season), sophomore <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/shane_kari00.html">Kari Shane</a> and redshirt freshman <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/tinnin_courtney00.html… Tinnin</a> who were both named to the list in their first year of eligibility.<br /><br />To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor to the team.</p>
