Diving signs Canadian standout

December 08, 2009

The Arizona State diving team will welcome a new face next fall as Hailey Casper has signed a letter of intent to study and compete at Arizona State University. A native of Calgary, Alb., Casper brings experience from the international stage to the Sun Devils.

"Hailey is probably this year's top high school senior coming out of Canada," said 13th year head coach Mark Bradshaw. "She has been successful at the junior level and spent two years on Canada's junior national team. She will bring more power to the program with her skills on the springboard."

A springboard specialist, Casper has thrived in both the Canadian national scene and in the worldwide junior scene. At the Speedo Junior National Championships, Casper came home with two medals, a gold on the 1-meter and a silver on the 3-meter. She also won the gold medal on the 1-meter at the 2009 Canadian Games. Casper was also a gold medalist on the 1-meter at the 2007 Speedo Junior Nationals where she also earned a bronze medal on the 3-meter.

Casper has also triumphed in the synchronized events, where she and her partner have earned bronze medals on the 3-meter synchro at the 2009 Spain Grand Prix and 2009 Canada Cup.

"Hailey is also a great student, we are gaining a great student-athlete," said Bradshaw. "She is a great athlete to help us achieve our team goals."
