Deadlines near for humanities research clusters

The Institute for Humanities Research invites faculty to submit an application for Research Cluster support for the 2010-2011 academic year. The IHR facilitates and supports diverse Research Clusters at ASU. Our aim is to assist research and communication among scholars and to enrich the intellectual climate of the university. The Research Clusters may serve as an entry point for faculty to engage with the IHR. Approximately five to six groups will be selected for funding for the 2010-2011 academic year.

An additional opportunity for ASU tenured and tenure-track faculty has been developed around the upcoming theme of “Humanities and Human Origins."

Five to eight scholars will be selected to participate in a seminar, which will meet every other week of the academic year 2010-2011. Each selected seminar fellow will receive a budget of approximately $7,500 (the exact amount will depend on the number of fellows selected) to cover a summer stipend or a course buy-out, research-related travel, and/or funding for visiting scholars and consultants, who can support work on individual projects as well as contribute to the seminar conversation. Seminar fellows will also help to design and participate in a Humanities and Origins workshop in the spring semester of 2011, which will be funded by the Origins Initiative at ASU.

To apply, please submit a three-page proposal by May 17 that includes: a summary of the proposed project, a statement of the project’s relevance to the theme “Humanities and Human Origins,” a list of possible sources of external funding to continue the work of the project in some way, with a brief explanation of how your project would qualify for each funding opportunity. In addition, please attach a current CV.
