Cochran and Cowles lift No. 4 softball over Southern Utah

With Kaitlin Cochran going 2-for-2 with three runs scored and four RBI on the day, the No. 4 Sun Devil Softball team rattled off their eighth consecutive win Monday afternoon in Tempe as they topped the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 9-3. ASU is now 11-1 overall after winning eight games in five days over the weekend.

Jackie Vasquez got it started for the Sun Devils in the first with a bunt single which was followed by a walk to Kaitlin Cochran as Krista Donnenwirth stepped up to hit both of them home on a double down the left field line off a full pitch count. After plating three in the first, they repeated the process in the third and sixth inning as well.

Vasquez started the rally in the third as well with a double that was plated off a Kaitlin Cochran double to left center only to be followed with a two run shot to right center off the first pitch Mindy Cowles saw for her second home run of the season.

Kaitlin Cochran added the rest of the tally in the sixth as with runners on the corners she took the first pitch deep to right field for her third home run of the season while collecting three RBI.

The Sun Devils will return to action this weekend as they host the Littlewood Classic in Tempe. Featured teams are Buffalo, Illinois State, Iowa, Radford and Miami of Ohio. Play begins Friday morning in Tempe at Farrington Stadium and continues through the weekend.
