Ciganda and Ramirez named ASU Athletes of the Week
Carlota Ciganda (Women's Golf) and Carlos Ramirez (Baseball) have been named ASU's Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 16. Both were instrumental in leading their teams to victory over the weekend.
Ciganda claimed medalist honors for the second straight tournament as she helped lead the Sun Devils to a 19-stroke win at the NCAA West Regional. Ciganda shot a 10-under 206 (67-68-71) to defeat USC's Jennifer Song. The freshman's score marked ASU's fourth best all-time score and ASU's 22-under 842 (273-283-286) was a school record.
Ramirez tore the cover off the ball for Arizona State, leading them to a 5-0 week. The junior backstop went 10-21 (.476), clubbed two homers, four doubles, scored six times and drove in 10 runs for the Sun Devils. He slugged .952 for the week, while also collecting two walks and getting hit by a pitch. He started behind the plate in all 5 games, catching 43 of a possible 45 innings on the week.
