Benedetti wins sixth Pac-10 Diver of the Month

ASU senior Micky Benedetti has been named Pac-10 Diver of the Month for January, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Benedetti turned in a record-breaking January for the Sun Devils. At the Dallas Morning News Classic, the Rome, Italy, native scored a 455.50 on the 3-meter, shattering the previous ASU record of 449.48 held by four-time NCAA champion Joona Puhakka. The mark also broke the Joe Perkins Natatorium pool record, which was set 19 years ago coincidentally by ASU head diving coach Mark Bradshaw. On the 1-meter, Benedetti handily captured first place, scoring over 70 points above the second-place finisher.

Following his performance in Texas, Benedetti swept the diving events against Stanford by scoring a 347.55 on the 1-meter and a 404.03 on the 3-meter. Against California, the six-time All-American earned first on the 3-meter with a score of 436.73 and finished second on the 1-meter with 329.10 points.

This is the sixth monthly honor for Benedetti, the most in Pac-10 history, and the ninth Men's Diver of the Month all-time for Arizona State.
