Benedetti wins sixth Pac-10 Diver of the Month


<p>ASU senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/benedetti_micky01.html">… Benedetti</a> has been named Pac-10 Diver of the Month for January, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.</p><separator></separator><p>Benedetti turned in a record-breaking January for the Sun Devils. At the Dallas Morning News Classic, the Rome, Italy, native scored a 455.50 on the 3-meter, shattering the previous ASU record of 449.48 held by four-time NCAA champion <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/puhakka_joona00.html">Jo… Puhakka</a>. The mark also broke the Joe Perkins Natatorium pool record, which was set 19 years ago coincidentally by ASU head diving coach <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-swim/mtt/bradshaw_mark00.html">Ma… Bradshaw</a>. On the 1-meter, Benedetti handily captured first place, scoring over 70 points above the second-place finisher.</p><separator></separator><p>Following his performance in Texas, Benedetti swept the diving events against Stanford by scoring a 347.55 on the 1-meter and a 404.03 on the 3-meter. Against California, the six-time All-American earned first on the 3-meter with a score of 436.73 and finished second on the 1-meter with 329.10 points.</p><separator></separator>This is the sixth monthly honor for Benedetti, the most in Pac-10 history, and the ninth Men's Diver of the Month all-time for Arizona State.<!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE --></p>
