Baseball's Riccio Torrez named Pac-10 Player of the Week

Arizona State junior third baseman Riccio Torrez has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced today. This marks the fourth consecutive season a Sun Devil has earned Player of the Week honors following opening weekend. Zack MacPhee won last season, Jason Kipnis did it in 2009 and Brett Wallace did it in 2008.

Torrez was the offensive catalyst for the Sun Devils in their three-game sweep of New Mexico. The Phoenix, Ariz., native drove in seven runs in the three games, including three home runs. He drove in a career-high five RBI on opening night, thanks to his first career multi-homer game. After the two on Friday, Torrez added an inside the park home run in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.

This marks the second career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Torrez and Arizona State's Conference-leading 96th all-time Player of the Week selection. Torrez earned the award last season on May 3.
