Baseball's Riccio Torrez named Pac-10 Player of the Week


<p>Arizona State junior third baseman <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/torrez_riccio00.html"><span style="color: #444444;">Riccio Torrez</span></a> has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced today. This marks the fourth consecutive season a Sun Devil has earned Player of the Week honors following opening weekend. <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/macphee_zack00.html"><span style="color: #444444;">Zack MacPhee</span></a> won last season, <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/kipnis_jason00.html"><span style="color: #444444;">Jason Kipnis</span></a> did it in 2009 and <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/wallace_brett00.html"><span style="color: #444444;">Brett Wallace</span></a> did it in 2008.</p><separator></separator><p>Torrez was the offensive catalyst for the Sun Devils in their three-game sweep of New Mexico. The Phoenix, Ariz., native drove in seven runs in the three games, including three home runs. He drove in a career-high five RBI on opening night, thanks to his first career multi-homer game. After the two on Friday, Torrez added an inside the park home run in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.</p><separator></separator><p>This marks the second career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Torrez and Arizona State's Conference-leading 96th all-time Player of the Week selection.
