Baseball's Maggi named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Arizona State sophomore infielder/outfielder Drew Maggi has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced today. It is the first weekly honor of Maggi's career and 92nd all-time Player of the Week winner for Arizona State, the most in the Pac-10 Conference.
Maggi becomes the third Sun Devil to win a weekly award from the conference in 2010, joining Zack MacPhee (Player of the Week on February 22) and Jake Borup (Pitcher of the Week on March 29).
Maggi (Phoenix, Ariz.) was the offensive catalyst for the Sun Devils all weekend long, helping lead ASU to a 2-1 series win at Oregon. Maggi went 6-13 (.462), scored four runs and drove in three, including his first career home run on Thursday, a solo blast that accounted for all the scoring in a 1-0 ASU win. Maggi also drew two walks and stole two bases while playing flawless defense in both left and at shortstop.
The Sun Devil's lead-off hitter is batting .396 on the season with 25 runs scored and 20 driven in. He has stolen a team-leading 15 bases and drawn 19 walks, second most on the club.
