Baseball wraps series with sweep of Cal


<p><a href="/sports/m-basebl/stats/2009-2010/game23.html">Box Score</a></p><separator></separator><p><a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/maggi_drew00.html">Drew Maggi's</a> walk-off RBI single up the middle propelled top-ranked Arizona State to a 3-2 win and a three-game Pac-10 series sweep of Cal in front of the third consecutive sell out crowd at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The win improves ASU to 23-0, 3-0 in Pac-10 play.</p><separator></separator><p>Maggi's single with two outs scored <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/torrez_raoul00.html">Raoul Torrez</a>, who had singled with two away and then stole second to set up the game-winner. <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/swagerty_jordan00.html">Jordan Swagerty</a> (1-0) picked up the win in relief after catching the first eight innings.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/borup_jake00.html">Jake Borup</a> turned in the best performance of his career, but ended up with a no decision. Borup struck out a career high 13 hitters in his 7.2 innings of work, allowing only one run on only two hits. He allowed a hit against Cal's first hitter of the game and then did not allow another until the top of the eighth inning, a span of 22 batters.</p><separator></separator><p>Cal got a run in the first on an RBI fielder's choice groundout by Mark Canha to take an early 1-0 lead. The Golden Bears would hold that lead until the bottom of the eighth.</p><separator></separator><p>The Devils were finally able to break through against Cal starter Dixon Anderson in the eighth, plating two runs to take a 2-1 lead. After <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/maggi_drew00.html">Drew Maggi</a> led off the inning with a single, <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/calhoun_kole00.html">Kole Calhoun</a> brought him home with a double to left. Calhoun took third on a throwing error by Cal shortstop Marcus Semien. He would score on a <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/torrez_riccio00.html">Riccio Torrez</a> single up the middle that gave ASU the lead at 2-1.</p><separator></separator><p>Cal would answer back in the ninth against <a href="/sports/m-basebl/mtt/swagerty_jordan00.html">Jordan Swagerty</a>, plating an unearned run to tie the game.
