Bach and Urfer help softball edge Stanford

Box Score

A dominant performance from Hillary Bach and RBIs from Mandy Urfer gave the seventh-ranked ASU Softball team a 3-2 win over No. 14 Stanford Sunday afternoon. With the win Bach moves to 21-4 on the year while ASU moves to 39-11 overall and 8-7 in conference play as Stanford falls to 32-14 and 5-10 in the Pac-10.

Taking to the circle for the Sun Devils was sophomore righty Hillary Bach again who entered the game with a 20-4 record to face-off against Ashley Chinn who held a 7-5 record.

Mandy Urfer got the ball rolling for the Sun Devils in the second inning as she cracked a single to center field only to grace the plate with her presence after a sac bunt from Annie Lockwood and sac fly from Caylyn Carlson.

The Cardinal fired back at ASU in the fourth inning, tying it up at one run apiece with an RBI ground out to second base from Rosey Neil. The coniferous foes struck back again, taking the upper hand on ASU with Alissa Haber coming in key as her RBI single was just what they needed taking a 2-1 lead.

It wasn’t in the cards for Stanford though as the Sun Devils came back in the sixth inning with two straight hits to lead off the inning from Katelyn Boyd and Kaylyn Castillo proving to be the difference as Mandy Urfer collected another RBI with another ground out to tie it 2-2 before Annie Lockwood came in clutch for the Sun Devils with an RBI infield single as ASU took the 3-2 lead.

It was all Bach needed as she was untouchable the rest of the game, remaining composed even in stress times that put runners on the corners for the Cardinal. With the win she advances to 21-4 on the year.

The Sun Devils take to the road again next weekend as they’re off to Corvallis, Ore. to take on the Oregon State Beavers next Friday-Sunday.
